Dental professionals must be prepared to manage medical emergencies promptly and effectively. This 2-hour Medical Emergencies & Life Support Course is designed specifically for dental teams, meeting the General Dental Council (GDC) requirements for CPD and following the latest Resuscitation Council UK guidelines.

?? This course meets the GDC minimum requirement of 2 hours annual training, contributing towards the mandatory 10 hours over each 5-year CPD cycle.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

·       Recognize and manage the most common medical emergencies in dental practice

·       Apply the structured ABCDE approach to patient assessment and treatment

·       Perform basic life support (BLS) in line with current adult guidelines, including AED use

·       Understand and respond to cardiac arrest in children and pregnancy

·       Use emergency equipment safely and effectively: pulse oximeter, oxygen, glucometer, BVM, oral airways, AED

·       Administer emergency medications, including use of auto-injectors and IM injection techniques

·       Identify symptoms and deliver treatment for: Chest Pain, Anaphylaxis, Hypoglycaemia, Convulsions, Asthma, Stroke, Sepsis, Choking, Cardiac Arrest, Unconsciousness

·       Understand and apply Human Factors including team working and non-technical skills

·       Perform essential equipment checks and readiness protocols

·       Overview of GDC & CQC emergency training requirements

·       ABCDE structured patient assessment

·       Medication management & treatment protocols

·       Resuscitation Council UK adult BLS & AED guidelines

·       Paediatric and pregnancy-specific resuscitation considerations

·       Use of: pulse oximeter, oxygen, glucometer, BVM, oral airways, AED

·       Adrenaline auto-injector and IM injection techniques

·       Scenario-based learning and role-play

·       Team response, Human Factors and communication

·       Post-incident documentation and debrief

Assessment & Certification

Participants are continuously assessed throughout the course by experienced instructors. On successful completion, a CPD certificate (2 hours) is issued — fulfilling GDC requirements for annual medical emergencies training.
